Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of elderly women who won’t give up their remote controls until somebody gives mouth-to-mouth to their afternoon shows… in the new new media capital of the world, St. Petersburg, Florida!
Kim Zimmer was with the soap opera Guiding Light for 26 years – more than a third of the 72 years the show was on radio and television.
But a look at the picture of her on the cover of her new memoir, I’m Just Sayin’! Three Deaths, Seven Husbands, and a Clone! My Life as a Daytime Diva, doesn’t suggest someone headed for a rockin’ chair. She’s too feisty – based on the content of her book – to ever just fade away.
KIM ZIMMER podcast excerpt: "It wasn't like I was falling down drunk when I went back to Guiding Light after lunch. I had just numbed myself with a couple glasses of wine so I didn't freak out on people. It put me in a place where I was able to handle my disappointments a lot better... It was unprofessional... I guess... but I was never sloppy drunk when I was doing my work. By the time I got to the set, the wine had worn off, like when you cook with it."
I’m not a big soap fan, as regular viewers and listeners to Mr. Media know. But the last time Kim Zimmer was on this show, in March 2010 – along with her TV husband, Robert Newman – she was a lot of fun. So I had to invite her back to talk about a book that she clearly invested a lot of personality and truth in. Kim Zimmer Website • Facebook • Twitter
